I had difficulty in practicing this Choral part. The tone appeared too depressing to me. Also reading (and memorizing) the score is troublesome due to the chromatic melody lines and casual modulations. One finds wide chords that should be connected by pedal here and there. The composer suggests long (and maybe half) pedaling, which might blur everything. The main melody, played three times, is moving, but it is almost impossible to play the bunch of arpeggios AND the smooth melody line at the same time. Yes. this part requires close study of pedaling. Can I do it with ePiano? As usual, my phrasing is relatively short. Just after my best diminuendo phrase in c minor, the first Choral tune (we have three) was presented with a risky use of the soft pedal. Second one (f minor) is my favorite with a natural singing. The last one (eflat minor) is less powerful than the "muscle contest" as Cortot negatively put it, but apparently things went out of my control. Although I tried hard to differentiate the three-time melody of imploration, you might fall asleep -- like I often do while listening to even the recordings by the greatest pianists. [ I assure you that even if you fall asleep, it does not mean you are denying Him three times before dawn.] I would like to point out that there is a phrase in the intermezzo where I believe an impressionist-like long pedaling is effective. I hope you will be rather disturbed.
