"Scène et Danse Erotique" is a colorful piece characteristic for its dynamic range (from ppp to ffff). Arguably the composer had Salome (R. Strauss, 1905) or Daphnis et Chloé (Ravel, 1912) in mind. If you replace the leading instrument in "Scène" 0:00 into oboe, this piece is understandable as a sketch for an orchestral work. I note that this is the only piano piece by Voormolen that tremolo is used. "Danse Erotique" is much simpler and apparently written for the piano from the start. Since the music is rather repetitive, which is rare for this composer, understanding of the indication "Rythmé" might be the key to attractive performance.

I had the sheet music of this piece, but I did not feel like playing it because I thought the "Danse" was not attractive enough. One day I found a youtube clip of "Scene" where a hobby pianist tried to play attractively. It was a good try and I also decided to give a shot. Other pieces by Voormolen are quite minor. I might play "Livre des enfants" some day, but will play music by other composers more often.

[score] Rouart-Lerolle, 1923

[instrument] Yamaha C6x

[playing] A Tip: the tremolos in the last part of "Scène" is easily played by the right hand.
